Meet Claudia: The Auditor Who Sees Purpose Behind Every Number

Today, we’re excited to highlight, Claudia Perez-Valdez, a senior auditor whose dedication, curiosity, and values-driven mindset have made her an incredible addition to our team.  

Her Journey into Accounting  

Claudia’s path into accounting began long before she recognized it, shaped by a family rooted in entrepreneurship. With a mother who worked as an accountant in Mexico, a grandfather who runs a corner store, and her uncles who all run their own businesses, she grew up surrounded by the everyday language of business. These early experiences planted the seeds of curiosity that would later guide her career. 

In college, that curiosity took shape as Claudia became deeply involved in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Investment Group and Beta Alpha Psi, two organizations that strengthened her skills and broadened her understanding of business and finance.  Through leadership roles, analyzing investments, and tackling collaborative projects, she discovered just how much she loved working with financial statements. An audit professor ignited that spark even further, showing her that audit wasn’t just rules—it was meaningful, engaging, and deeply impactful work. From that point on, she knew she had found her path in accounting.  

Meaningful Work in Audit  

 Claudia’s values were shaped early on by the nonprofit school she attended during childhood, where service, community, and doing what’s right were emphasized daily. Those principles stayed with her as she explored different areas of accounting, ultimately leading her to audit—the perfect blend of analytical challenge and mission-driven work. “I’ve always believed helping others is one of the most important things you can do,” she shared. “Audit allows me to use the skills I love while supporting organizations that make a difference.” 

When Claudia discovered BryMar, something clicked. The firm’s genuine transparency structured yet simple approach to audit, and supportive team environment aligned beautifully with the values she holds close. “I truly think I was meant to be part of this team, and I am so happy here,” she says.  

Finding Joy Beyond the Numbers  

Outside of work, Claudia is fully immersed in preparing for the first of four exams required for her CPA license, studying diligently for the FAR exam she will sit for this December. When she isn’t deep in her studies, she finds balance through the activities that bring her joy—like enjoying 15–20-mile weekend cycling rides, where the downhill stretches and steady movement help her release stress and feel energized. She also loves spending time with her dog and playing kickball on weekends.  

Claudia’s Words of Wisdom 

If Claudia could offer advice to her younger self—or to anyone beginning their accounting journey—it would be to slow down and embrace each stage of growth. “Don’t try to finish things too fast—just appreciate the stage you’re at and grow as much as you can,” she says. She also encourages new professionals to find mentors early and avoid comparing their path to others, reminding them that every career unfolds at its own pace and in its own unique way. 

A Dinner Table of Inspiration 

When asked which fictional or historical figures she’d invite to dinner, Claudia chose two minds she’d love to learn from: Warren Buffett and Jane Austen—though she’d prefer to chat with them separately. She’s fascinated by entrepreneurial thinkers and would relish the chance to hear how Buffett approaches decision-making and long-term strategy. And with Austen, she’d dive into discussions about storytelling, women’s voices, and the quiet strength woven through her writing—conversations that reflect Claudia’s appreciation for both intellect and insight.
