A Night of Possibility: Celebrating the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley

There are some evenings that remind you what community can accomplish when people come together around a shared belief in what’s possible.
The 37th Hispanic Foundation Ball was one of those nights.
On October 17, BryMar’s Michael and Justina joined a sold-out crowd at the Signia by Hilton in downtown San Jose for the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley’s (HFSV) annual black-tie gala.
For nearly four decades, the Ball has brought together leaders, educators, students, businesses, elected officials, and community supporters to celebrate Latino achievement and invest in the next generation.
The room was packed. The evening was beautiful. There were tuxedos and gowns, cocktails and dinner, music, and dancing.
What stayed with us most happened when the students took the stage.
When the Mission Walks into the Room at the Hispanic Ball
The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley has a clear mission: improve the trajectory of Latino families in Silicon Valley by increasing the number of Latino professionals pursuing successful careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Their approach follows a journey they describe in three words: Seed. Cultivate. Harvest.
They spark an interest in STEM among younger students and help families support their educational journeys. They provide college students with scholarships, mentorship, professional development, and career connections. And they help graduates build successful careers and grow into leaders in Silicon Valley.
At the Ball, that mission wasn't something written in a brochure.
It was standing on the stage.
Two scholarship recipients, currently in college and pursuing STEM degrees, shared their stories with the room. They spoke about where they came from, what they are working toward, and what the support they have received has meant along the way.
In a ballroom filled with hundreds of people, those individual stories made the purpose of the evening feel remarkably personal.
They were a reminder that behind every scholarship is a student. Behind every student is a family. And behind every opportunity is a community of people who decided that someone's potential was worth investing in.
More Than a Scholarship
That investment goes well beyond helping with tuition.
HFSV's Latinos in Technology programs are designed to help students not only earn STEM degrees but successfully make the transition from college into their careers. Scholars gain access to financial assistance, mentorship, professional development, networking opportunities, internships, and connections with STEM employers.
The scale of that community continues to grow. HFSV now reports 672 Latinos in Technology Scholars, more than half of whom transferred from community colleges.
That number is impressive.
Seeing the students behind it is something else entirely.
As Michael reflected after the evening:
“You can talk about the impact in numbers, but then you hear these students tell their stories and suddenly those numbers have names, families, goals, and futures attached to them. That’s what made the evening so powerful. These students have worked incredibly hard and organizations like the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley are helping make sure they have the opportunities without financial limitations. It was an honor to be in that room and support what they’re building.” - Michael Bryant, Managing Partner at BryMar CPA
Then Came the Paddles
After dinner and the student presentations came one of the most powerful moments of the evening: the Fund a Need.
Paddles began going up around the ballroom. One after another, individuals and organizations stepped forward to invest in the students and families they had just heard about.
In just one hour, more than $150,000 was raised, with the largest single contribution reaching $10,000.
It was an incredible display of generosity.
Each represented a person, company, or organization choosing to invest in what they had just heard and seen.
A Celebration Worth Dancing About
Of course, an evening celebrating community should also feel like a celebration.
After the program, fundraising, and raffle wrapped up, the ballroom shifted again. The music came up, guests headed to the dance floor, and the formal program gave way to dancing and celebration - the final chapter of an evening that began with cocktails and conversation and ended with a room full of people celebrating what they had accomplished together.
For Michael and Justina, representing BryMar at the Ball was an opportunity to experience the work of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley beyond reports, meetings, and numbers.
And that matters to us.
At BryMar, we're fortunate to work alongside organizations led by people who care deeply about their missions and the communities they serve. Events like the Hispanic Foundation Ball give us the opportunity to see that passion in action-to meet the people behind the programs, hear the stories behind the numbers, and celebrate the impact being created throughout our community.
Planting Seeds for What Comes Next
The Hispanic Foundation Ball began in 1990 as a celebration of Hispanic philanthropy, an opportunity to raise awareness of issues affecting the Latino community, and a way to honor people creating change.
Nearly four decades later, that spirit remains at the heart of the evening.
Only now, you can see generations of impact standing together in the same ballroom.
Students beginning their journeys.
College scholars preparing for STEM careers.
Professionals and community leaders who are already giving back.
And hundreds of people willing to invest in those who will come next.
Seed. Cultivate. Harvest.
By the end of the evening, those words felt like much more than the names of programs.
They felt like a promise.
BryMar was grateful to be there to celebrate it.
