Laughter filled the air, and lively chatter echoed through the grand halls of the Imperial Ball Room from the more than 500 people gathered at the Signia Hilton in San Jose for the jubilant affair of the Yu-Ai Kai 50th Anniversary Golden Gala. It was an evening steeped in celebration, marking half a century of Yu-Ai Kai's unwavering commitment to promoting healthy aging, fostering independence, and embracing Japanese-American tradition. It was a true testament to Yu-Ai Kai's enduring legacy.
Founded with a mission to empower seniors to age well and thrive, Yu-Ai Kai has been a beacon of support for countless individuals and families over the past five decades. From providing vital resources to advocating for the needs of seniors, this organization has been instrumental in enriching the lives of the elderly and fostering a sense of community.
Michael Bryant, managing partner at BryMar CPA, and his wife Justina Bryant, Chief Marketing Officer at BryMar CPA, were among the esteemed guests in attendance, having served as auditors for Yu-Ai Kai for over a decade. Reflecting on their longstanding partnership with the organization, Michael Bryant remarked, "Over the
past 11 years, we've had the privilege of serving as auditors for the remarkable Yu-Ai Kai organization. It's been an absolute delight working alongside such a dedicated team of individuals who truly embody excellence and compassion."
Central to the festivities was a magnificent silent auction, offering attendees the opportunity to bid on an array of exquisite items, with proceeds directly benefiting Yu-Ai Kai's vital programs and services. Among the eager online bidders was Sandy Martinez, partner at BryMar, her enthusiasm for both philanthropy and sports led her to an exciting win—a framed, signed jersey of Draymond Green from the Golden State Warriors.
The festivities commenced with the spirited presence of Mike Inouye, the charismatic master of ceremonies from NBC Bay Area, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The atmosphere surged with excitement as the thunderous beats of San Jose Taiko's drumming performance electrified the room, followed by
the graceful movements of hula dancing by Kawailehua Hula Ohana. Later, guests were serenaded by the enchanting melodies of Herb Ohta Jr. on ukulele and Jon Yamasato on guitar, their harmonies filling the air with captivating grace. Each facet of the entertainment showcased the vibrant tapestry of Japanese-American culture, honoring both the heritage of the past and the vitality of the present, while fostering an atmosphere of joy and unity among all in attendance.
At the heart of it all stood Jennifer Masuda, Executive Director of Yu-Ai Kai, whose visionary leadership has guided the organization to new heights. Alongside her dedicated team and volunteers, Jennifer Masuda has worked tirelessly to uphold Yu-Ai Kai's mission, ensuring that seniors continue to receive the care and support they deserve.
As the night drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of gratitude and pride in the air. Each attendee departed with cherished memories of an evening filled with love, laughter, and a shared sense of purpose. And as Yu-Ai Kai looks ahead to the next 50 years, one thing is abundantly clear: the legacy of compassion and community forged on this special night will continue to shine brightly, illuminating the path for generations to come.
Here's to Yu-Ai Kai—50 years strong and counting. Congratulations to Jennifer Masuda, the staff, and volunteers for a job well done.
