A Day That Pulled You In
At the Half Moon Bay Airport, the Pacific Coast Dream Machines festival unfolded like a scene built for curiosity: classic cars lined up for wandering eyes, vintage planes waiting to take flight, local food vendors filling the air with familiar Coastside flavors, and music drifting through the crowd.
For BryMar team members Alex Baron and Sarah Walters, the event offered more than a day among cars, planes, boats, and local vendors. It offered a firsthand look at the community spirit surrounding Coastside Adult Day Health Center, a BryMar client whose mission is to keep people as healthy, active, and independent as possible, when advancing years or physical/mental conditions call for extra care and attention..
More Than a Fundraiser
At first glance, Dream Machines might look like a car show. Spend a few minutes there, though, and it quickly becomes something more layered.
Sarah described it best: “This kind of fundraising event is creative, unique, and seems less like a fundraiser and more like a fair.”
That feeling came through in every direction. Families were laughing, volunteers were welcoming guests, live music created an easy rhythm for the day, and people moved from display to display with the kind of curiosity that makes an event feel shared.
Alex noticed that same energy right away. When she arrived, her first impression was simple: “It was bigger than I expected.” Having never been to this event before, she was struck by how much there was to see and how many people had gathered for the day.
The Details That Made People Stop
Every good event has a few moments that become the story you tell afterward.
At Dream Machines, one of those moments came in the form of a car with buck teeth.
Among rows of impressive machines, this one had a personality all its own. Alex said it made her laugh because it was “the only one that they made look like a actual person,” adding that it was “just so cute.” Sarah felt the same way, calling it “really funny and cute.”
It was the kind of detail that made people smile before they even realized they were smiling.
And that was not the only surprise. Sarah also remembered a car with its engine open, where a miniature Hot Wheels-style version of the same car spun on a record inside. Nearby, a replica of a 1930s boat added another layer of history and craftsmanship to the day.
The more you wandered, the more there was to find. Some displays were nostalgic. Some were playful. Some were simply unexpected. Together, they gave the event the feeling of a treasure hunt, where every turn offered something worth pointing out to the person next to you.
Looking Up
At an event held at the Half Moon Bay Airport, some of the most memorable moments happened above the crowd.
When the planes began their fly-bys, the atmosphere shifted. Conversations paused. Heads tilted back. People looked up together.
Sarah remembered those fly-bys as one of the moments that made the day special, sharing that many of the planes were from the 1950s and that it was exciting to see how well they had been cared for—and how fast they could still fly.
That mix of history and motion gave the event part of its magic. These machines were not simply being displayed. They were still capable, still cared for, and still inspiring awe.
Alex noticed that the event also made room for what comes next. Alongside the classics, she saw displays that felt more current and future-focused, describing the event as a mix of “classic type cars” and “futuristic.” Dream Machines created a bridge between eras: a place to admire the past, enjoy the present, and imagine the future.
A Community in Motion
As memorable as the machines were, the heart of the event was the people.
You could see it in the volunteers welcoming guests. You could see it in the families laughing together. You could see it in the groups clustered around cars, leaning in with shared fascination. You could see it in couples dancing to live music and in kids making their way toward bounce houses and bungee jumping.
Sarah noticed how many people were willing to help bring the day to life. “From board members to local teens, everyone was willing to pitch in for the event,” she shared. She even saw the Board President driving attendees around in a golf cart, a small detail that said a lot about the spirit behind the day.
The local vendors added to that sense of place. Sarah remembered Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, Sam’s Chowder House, and a local apiary selling honey. These details gave the event a distinctly Coastside feel. It was not simply hosted in Half Moon Bay. It belonged there.
Beyond the Cars and Planes
By the end of the day, Dream Machines was memorable for more than the cars, planes, boats, music, and food.
It was memorable because of what all of those things made possible: people coming together in support of a mission that matters. The event created space for connection, curiosity, and celebration, making support for Coastside Adult Day Health Center feel joyful, creative, and full of life.
For BryMar, being present at events like this is a meaningful reminder of why client relationships matter. We get to see the people behind the mission, the community behind the organization, and the kind of impact that cannot always be captured in numbers alone.
